Rodrigo Guitar Trio

08/09 Season Tour Periods:
2009: April 14 through 26

Why not let your audience be as pleased
and "carried away" as the audience in St. Louis?

"CROWD-PLEASING BRITISH GUITAR TRIO COMBINES SPANISH, JAZZ TRADITIONS Personable and highly capable performers. They're a low-key group with that necessary skill for ensemble of seemingly reading one another's minds,
and a sense of genuine enjoyment in their playing. Each of them took it in turn
to say a few words about the pieces on the program; they kept it on the light and
short side, with just enough explanation to help our understanding....They offered much of great beauty....Bernstein's 'West Side Story' was a major crowd pleaser....Uncharacteristically for a Guitar Society audience, this one got so carried away that they applauded between movements." (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

"One of the most enjoyable concerts I have attended." (Classical Guitar)

Formed in 1987, the Rodrigo Guitar Trio is recognized as one of the United Kingdom's leading guitar ensembles, and indeed one of the leading guitar ensembles of the world. Five highly acclaimed recordings feature unique arrangements of music by composers such as Albéniz, Granados, Debussy, Ravel, Villa-Lobos, Turina, Gershwin and Bernstein. The trio's distinctive sound features the higher-pitched requinto guitar, an instrument that can extend the pitch range.

The trio has toured extensively throughout Europe and given many concerts at London's Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall. The group has also given live broadcasts on BBC radio programmes and BBC television.

"Power, delicacy, and variety of mood...Exquisitely performed...rewarding on all levels--from sheer fun and aural stimulation, to an appreciation for the arrangers' skills and awe at the technical mastery of the performances. The sense of ensemble is spellbinding." (Sonneck Society for American Music Bulletin)

"The concert was great--and the guys were super...everyone enjoyed their fabulous playing." (Juliet Abrahamson, Cambridge Summer Recitals, England, presenter)

"Splendid performance...first rate. We owe you a great debt of thanks." (John Rice, Kent Guitar Festival, England, presenter)

"Fine players who have brought the art of guitar ensemble to a remarkable standard." (Dundee Courier, Scotland)

"The trio was a delight to work with and to hear. We loved the concert, as did our audience." (William Ash, St. Louis Classical Guitar Society, presenter)
